Beckman High Graduate Sophie Nguyen Wins New Car in Tustin Toyota’s “Drive for Perfect Attendance” Program
Beckman High School graduate Sophie Nguyen won a new 2020 Toyota Corolla donated by Tustin Toyota as part of the “Drive for Perfect Attendance” Program. “I was shocked and excited,” said Nguyen when her name was announced as the winner of the new car at Beckman’s graduation ceremony in May. Nguyen recently picked up the new Corolla at Tustin Toyota, which also threw a party for her and provided a gift basket of college essentials. She will be attending U.C. San Diego as a biochemistry major in the fall. For the sixth consecutive year, the Tustin Unified School District partnered with Tustin Toyota to increase overall student attendance throughout the District by highlighting seniors who model exemplary attendance and achievement, according to TUSD Assistant Superintendent, Administrative Services, Dr. Grant Litfin.
Approximately 118 students from more than 1,870 seniors representing all four TUSD high schools – Beckman, Foothill, Hillview and Tustin – were successful at maintaining perfect attendance during the course of the school year. All students who maintained perfect daily attendance within Tustin Unified’s high schools were eligible for entrance into a lottery for a new Toyota Corolla. Numbers identifying eligible students were placed into a tumbler and the winning number was drawn by Tustin Toyota Parts and Services Director Glenn Kashima at a TUSD Board of Education meeting. The surprise announcement was made at the winner’s high school graduation ceremony. “Drive for Perfect Attendance” continues to be successful and Tustin Toyota plans to sponsor the program again in the 2019-20 school year, Kashima said.
